GIANT SNAKEHEAD FISHING KHOA LAEM DAM THAILAND

I have now ticked this one off on my list of things to do in this life, I understand that some people love lure fishing, I can see why.

But I have to be honest, I found the Snakehead disappointing, for such a highly rated fish I expected to have a good fight with stunning hits and screaming reels.
Kiwi Fishing does not as a rule have little rods, but I do have one that I pulled up off the bottom of Bung Sam Ran, it’s a good little rod a Loomis so it has a good breed name to it, as for the reel, I dont have a clue, it is a cheap little egg beater I know that much, so I spooled it with 20 kg braid, haha. (Standard fishing technique for abrasion resistance and stopping power).
There was a short fight; the drag has to be screwed up hard to stop the fish going for the snags, so fight time was under 1 minute. There really wasn’t any challenge in the fight; there wasn’t any playing a fish, it was just winching it in. I really don’t see the sport in Giant Snakehead fishing, where is the playing of the fish? All you seem to do is hook it up and drag it out! Because, if you let them run then there is very little chance of you landing your fish, due to the fact that when targeting Snakeheads you are usually fishing amongst obstacles and snags. Its normal to fish the edges where you can see the obstructions in the water as this is their preferred habitat.
I must admit my Giant Snakehead was small but let’s be honest, kilo for kilo Pacu win hands down! I can take customers to some of the best Giant Snakehead fishing grounds in Thailand, supply some of the best local guides there are. But honestly Giant Snakehead are not all they are cracked up to be, ok there is a splash when they hit the lure, mmm, not like a marlin hit that’s for sure!
What I see is an industry pushing this species just to make money. The fight is not worth the effort of standing in a canoe all day casting your lures just to winch in fish.
However, looking at the industry and the love for Giant Snakehead, calling a lake Fisherman’s Paradise we decided to cater for the Giant Snakehead Anglers, so we arranged for 50,000 2 - 2 1/2 inch Giant Snakehead fry to be delivered.
The fishing in years to come at Fisherman’s Paradise is going to be some of the best in the world for those Giant Snakeheads.
That means I will be Guiding Clients as they fish for this species, but it won’t be from a small canoe, it will be from the Solar Powered Boat done with some comfort and style, this will also mean for the angler that cannot go on such physically demanding trips can still enjoy stunning fishing in luxury surroundings.

As you can see here Thumb also fished the Giant Snakehead and the Jungle Perch known as Hampala Barb, Oats landed the only standard Snakehead of the day.

I am 35 and like to say fairly fit, and after spending a day canoe fishing for Giant Snakehead, I have come back tired and sore, but the hard work paid off with another species ticked off. So please remember if you are booking a trip, then the balance needed to fish two people in a small unstable Thai style canoe, is hard work and can leave you feeling stiff and sore.
The result was that we had a good time and experienced what people have to go through just to land a Giant snakehead
