Sacrifices to the fish gods v

Can I bring my own Rod?

Well of course you can, I will look at it and see if it can be fished. But I will very quickly say NO if it is not sutible.

This is for many reasons,
I could tell you that I don’t want a customer to break their Rod, but I wont because it makes for a great tale they tell when they go home and sit in the Pub.

I could tell you its not good for my business to be breaking Rods, that’s un-professional, but I wont because it is still a good tale “the one that got away”

I WILL tell you that the fish are more important to me than your Rod, if you don’t have HEAVY gear then you can leave the fish with massive amounts of very heavy line hanging out of its mouth, that can kill the fish! If the line gets trapped then the fish will die slowly. So it is a responsibility of the Angler or the Tour Company to use a Professional rig,

If I have to decide that your gear is not good enough, then I will also tell you to “use this Rod”, handing you a very nice Custom Matched Setup.
We don’t run Fishing Poles, we use Quality Names and custom Builds, All our Reels have been modified by some of the top names in the fishing Industry to give the best performance. Part of Taking a Fishing Trip with Kiwi Fishing Bangkok is fishing with Professional Gear,
As a family fishing we have had some failures at Bung Sam Ran, it was a Big Education.
1 Broken Rod (cheap but very good rod!) cause: very heavy Drag setting for filming.
1 cooked small Shimano Calcutta needed new drag washers. Cause: BIG FISH
1 set of trashed Shimano Bait Runner 4500 drag washers. Cause: Big Fast Fish
1 set bearings Shimano Charter Special Cause: Big Fish

Now that is an interesting Death Rate, but please remember that there has been some serious fishing involved. The interesting thing is that as a family we have been playing in the Big Game Fishing Industry for a few decades now in New Zealand and we know to buy Quality, so to have Quality Reels trashed because of Big Fish said something to us, “get out the Big Gear”

Looking at two types of Anglers, Fresh water and Salt water, with this being the pool of clients as a Rule we have to look at the back grounds.
Take UK Anglers,
9-12 foot rod 12lbs test curve
big spinning reel
80lbs braid

This set up works great in the UK, but would it be pointless targeting Tuna on this rig for an example. Why do I mention Tuna, LOOK at the shape of the Giant Mekong Delta Catfish, it has a Big Propeller (tail) and allot of muscle mass, built for some power and needs some speed to get full stable control as all it other fins are very small. This is the same as a tuna, I admit that tuna run faster, but the fight can be very similar.

So lets look at fishing gear, so you want to fish the Big Fish.
Can you bring your own Rod?
Would your Rod look good sitting on a professional Big Game boat? If not then NO, as that is the standard needed to land Big Fish Safely.

So you want to fish the 30-100 lbs range of fish?
Well you better be using a 50 lbs Rod with 50 lbs line and a Good Reel. Anything less and you will be telling lots of stories of the “one that got away”.
So we come back to that,
9-12 foot rod 12lbs test curve
big spinning reel
80lbs braid
NO, lets be real about this, there is not enough strength in a Rod like that to deal with the power, it is also over-rated on the line, Line = Fuse, what do you want to “blow” first?
Rod, Reel or Line? I will take the line any day! With this combo the rod will break first, so one good fish and that Rod is history.
It may well be a good rod in your swim back home where the biggest fish is 60 lbs, but this swim is  a bit different the biggest fish is closer to 400 lbs, a 60 lbs fish is SMALL!

Ok so what I am pointing out is Fishing Bung Sam Ran and Targeting the top fish in the lake. That means that you need the top Gear, even if you are just fishing the small fish you will need a rod that can land 100 lbs fighters all day long and not show signs of Breaking.
Match it up within the Line Rod and Reel ratings as these are in place for safety, think of the fish in your choice of Gear look after them and you can fight again another day.
