Arapaima fishing at Fisherman’s Paradise
Well what a day, we did not hookup an Arapaima but we did land another World Record on a un-registered species.
But here is the story on the Arapaima fishing. I have been studying the fish at the lake and noticed some interesting things, so after many hours of this I formed a plan to bring on the Arapaimas as there are only 11 in this massive 50 acre lake at this moment in time.
The results were a sight that would make anglers blood run cold, this was just about scary! Three of the 11 Arapaima came to play. They were hitting the meatball of bait fish with a terrifying show of aggression, big Tails thrashing the water, bait fish Exploding as they swim for their lives!
I know of no other lake in the world where you can bring on such fish, to be sitting in a boat in a massive lake with monsters like these coming up around you is a sight to see!
It is not often in my world of fishing that a big fish shocks me, but this Scared me!
I will see if I can paint a better picture of it in words. This lake is different, there is room for a fish to get up speed if it wants, there is clean water for it so see, it hunts the bait fish, which are never in big meatballs, there is the odd small one under the feeding machine, but that only lasts a few minutes.
Give them a BIG meatball and they go Predator Crazy! Now they have been hunting this meatball daily for a few months, then it Stopped.
But they know the sound now, so now when I put on a Big Meatball of baitfish they coming running!
Most people that see Arapaima see them coming up for a breath of air on a lazy swim through the lake. So fishing for a lazy Arapaima is nothing like fishing when multiple Big fish are smashing a meatball in a show of pure feeding frenzy, to see fish this big smashing the water and leaving craters within meters of the boat is a sight that seems to produce a big shot of pure adrenalin.
So what does it feel like fishing Arapaima? well to be standing there with a Angler strapped in to a 50 pound Big Game Rod with full stand up fighting gear, and you have the bait fish in your hand ready to throw it to the Arapaima as it surfaces is an amazing feeling hunting the King of Hunters.
Seeing a display of pure aggression that is only seen when hooked up was an insight as to how these fish are going to react the first time they are hooked.
The anticipation of the strike was a nerve-racking feeling, we had a 100kg+ Arapaima follow a bait to the surface as we were reeling in, but sadly it didn’t strike. But still the feeling you get looking at a fish that big in full hunting mode sent chill through me.
